Interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. This position is unpaid and for college credit.

Organizational Overview:

HCAO educates about and advocates for an equitable, affordable, comprehensive, high-quality publicly funded universal healthcare system that will improve the lives of individuals, families and communities across Oregon and throughout the United States.

We are a statewide movement of over 130 member and endorsing organizations working to achieve a comprehensive, equitable, publicly funded, and high-quality health care system to serve all living in Oregon and the U.S. We do this through community education programs and member and community engagement efforts.

Our internships are a fantastic opportunity for students who are passionate about universal healthcare and want to be involved in elevating our work.

Current Interns:

Josilyn Ogden

Josilyn is a current Master of Social Work student at Boise State University. She has worked as a social worker for the past several years and became increasingly frustrated with the complex health systems and insurance policies that her clients had to navigate. The health disparities and lack of access in vulnerable communities in Oregon lead her to pursue a path in healthcare advocacy and ultimately an internship with HCAO. She believes that healthcare is a human right and we all deserve an equitable and accessible health care system. Josilyn is grateful to be taking part in HCAO's mission and looks forward to contributing to the universal health care movement in Oregon!

Adhya Gowda

Adhya is an undergraduate student studying psychology at Pacific University. After negative encounters with the current health insurance system and lack of access to essential medications, she became passionate about healthcare justice in the US. She joined HCAO as an intern because she has past experience with advocacy and organizing, and is excited to be able to make a difference for a cause she truly cares about.

Dominic Reasoner

Dominic recently completed a degree in Marketing from Portland State University. However, his path to HCAO was anything but ordinary. Dominic is a 2x cancer survivor, having beaten both liver cancer and leukemia. He is now 3 years cancer-free, and graduated from Portland State University in June at the age of 25, after battling illness from 16 to 22 years old. His healthcare journey ignited his belief in the healthcare-for-all movement. Dominic began volunteering with HCAO at 19 years old. For six years, he has channeled his experiences into advocacy for healthcare justice. Today, Dominic joins Health Care For All Oregon as an intern to champion healthcare as a fundamental human right, while also inspiring others to join the fight for a more equitable world.
