All Health Care All the Time

Hospital closures from Eugene to Hood River, Portland to Baker City are threatening the local economy and putting patient care at risk. HCAO is raising its voice by submitting opinion pieces to highlight how these types of incidents would not exist in a system that focused on patients; not profits.

And sadly, profits are what is driving the American healthcare system. It’s getting worse and is ultimately be unsustainable for Oregonians. Family premiums are an astounding $20,000 per year, a crippling amount for business and patients. In Oregon, insurers just approved for additional rate increases. Where does it end?

Bringing Oregonians under one public insurance program would address access disparities, prioritize caretaking over corporate profits, and eliminate deductibles and copays for patients — all at a lower cost.
