I don't know about you, but I get nauseous every time I see a medical bill in my mailbox. Clearly, I'm not alone: Paying for health care is the top concern of American families, according to a recent Monmouth poll. Nevertheless, Donald Trump and a vicious throng of Republicans are waging war on our current meager health insurance protections.

Yet there's something brighter on the horizon: A movement is rising for real universal care. Truthout has been on the frontline of covering the fight for single-payer health care, long before most people in the US considered it "realistic." We knew that a journalistic megaphone was essential for this movement to grow.

Now a significant majority of Americans support single-payer, and the House's Medicare for All bill is seeing record backing. Soon, Truthout will build on that momentum: We'll be launching a special section focused on single-payer news and analysis, to strengthen and fuel this vital movement.

This work could not be more urgent: People need to know that the current system is literally killing people--and that a heroic, life-or-death struggle is underway to ensure that we are all deemed worthy of health and survival.
