Regarding Dina Wills’ Jan. 25 letter about a single-payer health care insurance system, she admitted it would be the best option in an ideal world. Then why not do it?
A President Bernie Sanders’ single-payer health insurance plan would have its challenges, but challenges haven’t stopped previous great presidents from doing what they knew was right.
Many folks have benefited from passage of the Affordable Care Act, but many haven’t. As long as insurance companies exist, they’ll be telling people which doctors to go to, where to buy drugs, where to have procedures done, etc.
The main goal of an insurance company is to make money. That makes the cost so high that many folks aren’t able to access the system.
Why would any rational person want a for-profit company to pay their bills for them?
Wills’ comment that Sanders is out of touch with how our country is governed was uncalled for. He’s been involved in government at all levels throughout his life and has successfully worked on many important issues.
The ACA is like throwing crumbs to the hungry. It still allows for an unequal system in which there are huge differences in the quality and quantity of medical care people get. That’s unethical. Why should one person get better care then another, just because he or she is on a different plan?
We all need the same health care insurance plan, and we need a great president to make it happen. Bernie Sanders is that man.
