Workshops and trainings offered for effective advocacy
HCAO needs to greatly expand our advocacy statewide in order for us to win a ballot measure in 2020. We need to recruit new volunteers, as well as expand the capacities and build the confidence of our grassroots HCAO volunteers to advocate for health care for all. Hyung Nam, and Mike Huntington will be scheduling a basic orientation on grassroots HCAO advocacy for new people, beginners and those wanting to brush up on their skills. We will include everything from HCAO basics and telling our stories effectively to sharing info online, tabling and street canvassing.
The workshops will be offered in Portland and Corvallis or Eugene areas this fall. They will be about 2.5-3.5 hours long and will include some street canvassing in pairs to put our skills into practice. We need local leaders to help recruit and to coordinate dates and locations.
Most workshops/trainings are interactive, allow all participants to share and learn from one another and can accommodate people with varying levels of experience. You can contact Hyung Nam, HCAO board member and chair of the Education Committee, if you'd like to schedule a workshop.
We hope to follow up with more advanced workshops later to meet requests from local groups for everything from training for the speakers’ bureau to leadership development and direct action.
