Watch this video of an early Blues Fest (we're now on the "6th Annual Healing the Healthcare Blues"). The Norman Sylvester Band featured LaRhonda Steele, who was fighting breast cancer at the time of this performance. Janice Scroggins, also featured, has since died of a heart attack while working--two compelling health care stories. They had both lent their time and talent over and over again towards many costly health tragedies of fellow musicians. Then, sadly, we needed to give benefits for LaRhonda and for Janice's family, due to their health events.
This year the Blues Festival will take place on Saturday, April 22, at the Eagles Lodge, 7611 N. Exeter Ave (at Lombard) in Portland. It is a benefit for Health Care for All-Oregon (HCAO), again featuring the Norman Sylvester Band with Shoehorn and many special guests, including LaRhonda Steele. Other star performers include:
*Obo Addy Legacy Project “Okropong”
*Mary Flower *Tevis Hodge Jr. *Mic Crenshaw *Shoehorn
*Stangetones and Volcano Vixens *Bloco Alegria *Steve Cheseborough
*Lloyd “Have Mercy” Jones *Tony Ozier “Doo Doo Funk”
*Mad as Hell Doctors, Nurses and Interns!
With celebrity MCs Paul Knauls, Renee Mitchell and Ken Boddie ; there will be a Silent Auction, Dinners for purchase, two bars, and a Community Village of Information tables.
Stay tuned and save the date: Saturday April 22!
