Thanks to Dr. Larry Eby for his letter of Jan. 21, urging everyone concerned about health care in Oregon to join the rally in Salem. The single-payer model he recommends brings better outcomes for more people at a lower cost all over the world, and although necessary in transformation of the system, it is not sufficient: Building a delivery system that is patient-centered and focused on health is the other piece, and Dr. Eby's own son, Dr. Doug Eby of Anchorage, is a world leader in the development of the "medical home" system of patient care at the Alaska Native Medical Center.
This innovative delivery model, combined with a universal funding source replacing restrictive insurance "networks," is where Health Care for All Oregon is going. To find out more, do as Dr. Eby has suggested and join your neighbors from Mid-Valley Health Care Advocates at the Salem rally on Feb.11. Buses will run from Corvallis and Albany; reserve a seat at mvhca.org.
