ESSN sponsors fundraiser for the Tombstone Project

By Marlene Martin

You are invited to an ESSN fundraising event at Ninkasi Brewery in the Whitaker Neighborhood (272 Van Buren St.) of Eugene on Monday, January 28. Ninkasi will donate 25 percent of the day's pint sales to the Eugene Springfield Solidarity Network (ESSN) to fund the Tombstone Project, a visual depiction of the cost of not providing all Oregonians with health insurance. Studies indicate that approximately 500 people per year die in Oregon because they lack health insurance and therefore, lack of access to health care. Many die from preventable causes.

The Tombstone Project will consist of 500 life-size tombstones, fashioned out of light-weight weather-resistant and durable materials. We are hoping to create the first installations on the lawn in front of the State Capitol in Salem on February 4.

ESSN will be on site at the Brewery from 4:30-9 p.m. There will be acoustic music, and opportunities to express yourself regarding the growing Health Care is a Human Right movement. You can create a photo petition, fill out a Health Care Survey or sign a petition! Or you can just come by, say hi and have a pint of local ale!

We look forward to seeing you at Ninkasi on January 28. Bring your friends and share the news!
